Agastache aurantiaca ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’
FRAGRANT AGASTACHE MIX
Agastache aurantiaca ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ is a blend of seed gathered from the very best, newly released hybrids of fragrant Agastache aurantiaca.
Unbeatable flower-power, but on a compact plants
These new hybrids have been bred for unbeatable flower power and delicious fruity scents, but on compact plants.
So they are particularly well suited to small gardens and pots, where you need the value of a very long period of blooming, colour and scent, without taking up too much space.
Attracting useful pollinators with month after month of blooms
Or for planting in the veggie patch where you need to attract as many pollinators as possible, for as long as possible, but without taking up too much space.
Our pots of Agastache aurantiaca ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ stand all around the veggie patch.
Where they begin blooming in mid spring, and are on constant colourful duty until after the first frosts of winter.
See the difference in veggie set
You will really see the difference in fruit set when you plant some in your veggie plot or orchard. Or stand a flowering pot nearby.
Rich mix of flower colours
Flowers are a rich mix of jewel-like colours.
Including apricot, peach, strawberry, lilac, lemon and white.
So ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ provides one of the most vivid colour shows of all the wonderful Agastache family.
And it will not give up flowering from the go of mid-spring to the whoa of winter.
Deliciously scented & edible
But Agastache aurantiaca ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ should also be grown as a scent treat.
Because both the flowers and foliage are edible, and deliciously scented and flavoured.
So each plant will have a different scents and fruity tastes, including the flavours of mint, liquorice, and citrus.
Useful in the kitchen
Cooks love the foliage for use in the kitchen for both sweet and savoury dishes.
And the fresh flowers for giving flavour and colour to salads.
Tough & bone hardy
But when you add in a tough, bone-hardy constitution, then ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ is an essential in both the flower and veggie garden.
Tough & easy to grow
Plants of Agastache aurantiaca ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ are tough and easily grown in Full Sun to Part Shade.
They are all tolerant of both summer heat and winter cold; hardy in frost; and forgiving of a wide range of soils, including sandy, rocky and poor soils.
So they are also perfect for coastal areas, windy, and hot and dry gardens.
Water-wise & drought resistant
Agastache aurantiaca ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ are water-wise and drought resistant once established. So they are ideal plants for gardeners with limited water, as well as limited space. Or those who garden in pots and on balconies.
Low maintenance
‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ produces low maintenance plants, that are largely untroubled by any pests and diseases.
The only work required is to cut the whole plant back hard before spring to encourage new growth and a neat shape. And to pick and enjoy the delicious flowers and foliage as often as possible.
Use in cooking & craft
Use the delicious flavours in cakes, biscuits, salads, drinks; as edible and colourful garnish; and to flavour meat dishes.
Both flowers and foliage are delightful when dried and added to pot-pourri and insect repelling sachets.
Mosquito repellant
Plus herbal and folk medicine tells us to rub the leaves on exposed skin to help repel mosquitoes.
Flowers first year from seed
Agastache aurantiaca ‘Fragrant Delights Mix’ are very quickly grown for fast garden effect.
If the seed is sown early indoors, the resulting plants will flower happily in as little as 3 months from sowing.
The plants make upright 45 to 60cm. high, dense shrubby perennials.
Lovely cut flowers
The bountiful flower trusses make good cut blooms for a vase indoors, where their cheery colours, together with the smoky-grey foliage really sing.
Birds & bees love Agastache
But for me it is the entertainment provided by our native honey-eating birds, while they acrobatically dance amongst the flowers.
Doing fine impersonations of Hummingbirds as the sip nectar from the flowers.
Rabbit & deer resistant
And to top it all off – rabbits and deer cant abide the aromatic oils in the foliage and flowers – so they leave them alone. Bless all Agastache.
45-60cm. High in spectacular flowers x 45cm Wide fragrant, shrubby foliage.
SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suits beginners and gardening with kids
Scatter seeds directly in the garden during spring or autumn / or sow at any time indoors for quick and early plants.
Indoors: First sow the seeds in a punnet on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then gently pat the seeds on the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
But do not cover these seeds with any mix.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.
Now thoroughly moisten by placing the punnet in a shallow water bath, and allow the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the from the bottom.
This will ensure the mix is thoroughly moist but not drenched.
Label the punnet with the name and date sown.
Then place the punnet in a warm, well lit position (not in direct sunlight).
And keep the punnet moist by misting surface from a water spray bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear cover, plastic bag, or glass will help to maintain consistent moisture and prevent drying out.
Temperatures of 18-20C approx. are best for rapid and optimum germination.
(An electronic heat bed is ideal but not essential, any warm, well-lit spot will do).
But these seeds are not particularly fussy and are willing germinators.
Seedlings emerge in approx. 14-28 days.
Seed Count: 40 seeds per packet approximately.
(We always aim to exceed the stated count and give a generous serve).
