Antirrhinum majus ‘Madame Butterfly Ivory’ is also known as an “Azalea type” Snapdragon.
Because of the frilly, fluffy, fully double flowers.

Flower farmer’s delight

‘Madame Butterfly Ivory’ has been carefully bred for commercial farming, as it has a very long and continuous production of flower stems for harvesting right through summer and autumn up to the first frosts.
Producing well in either the open field or in the greenhouse, and rated as an “all season” variety.

Tolerant of both heat & cold

It is also bred for winter flower production in sub-tropical areas.
So ‘Madame Butterfly Ivory’ is able to produce under shorter day length conditions too.
Antirrhinum majus ‘Madame Butterfly Ivory’ plants are designed to be both heat and cold tolerant; and the flower stems have been bred to be strong and self supporting.

Wonderful garden or pot displays

Fortunately Antirrhinum majus ‘Madame Butterfly Ivory’ has also been designed for outstanding home garden display.
So it blooms long and hard in Full Sun, but will also perform creditably in Partly Shaded positions.
‘Madame Butterfly Ivory’ is a stunner for pot display too, because of the multitude of pretty frothy flowers over a very long period.

Super quick & easy from seed to flower

Antirrhinum majus ‘Madame Butterfly Ivory’ usually comes to flower in around 100 days from sowing the seed.

Edible flowers

Snapdragon flowers are deliciously edible and make a sweet treat in salads, stir fries, fruit salads, drinks and as garnish.
So plant some in your veggie patch for both nibbling and cutting for vases.

Deer & rabbit resistant

Happily, Snapdragons are not high on the menu list for rabbits and deer, who usually pass them by for fodder they find tastier.

Snappies can go on from year to year

Antirrhinum majus is actually a short lived perennial and will go on blooming for several years if left in the garden over winter.
But because they are so quick and easy to raise from seed, and fast to bring to flower from seed, they are often grown as annual.
Personally I leave mine in the garden from year to year instead, and just trim them back to reshoot each spring.

70-80cm High of frothy double ivory blooms on strong, much branched stems x 30-35cm Wide of neat, deep green foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow any time indoors in a punnet for an early start with flowers, or scatter directly in garden in winter and spring.

Indoors for quick & early plants: First sow the seeds on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then pat the surface lightly to ensure good contact of seeds to the mix, but do not cover.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to percolate to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place it in a warm, well lit position (not in direct sunlight).

Temperatures of 15-25C are best for optimum and rapid germination.
You can use a heat mat if you have one.
Though it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.

Continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle.
And covering the punnet with a clear cover or plastic bag will help to maintain consistent moisture.
Remove cover once germination has commenced.

Seeds germinate in approx. 10-15 days.
