Antirrhinum majus ‘Potomac Dark Orange’
SIZZLING SNAPDRAGONS

Antirrhinum majus ‘Potomac Dark Orange’ is a sizzling beauty.

Throbbing terracotta orange

With outstanding colouring of deep, throbbing, terracotta orange.
Making marvellous rich colour in the garden as well as for floristry.

Specially bred for long, tapering flower stems, early & long picking

Antirrhinum majus ‘Potomac Dark Orange’ one of the highly successful Potomac range of Snapdragons.
The Potomac Snapdragons are such winners because they have been specially bred for elegant, long, tapering spires of flowers. With the flowers perfectly spaced along the stems.
Combined with an early, long, and prolific flowering period, through spring, summer and autumn, the Potomacs are winners.

Florists adore the wonderful colour of ‘Potomac Dark Orange’

Florists adore this sizzling Snapdragon because it glows with rich but elegant colour.
It is not in any way garish or hard in colour.

Long lasting, elegant garden display

And it is just as impressive for long lasting garden displays.
Antirrhinum majus ‘Potomac Dark Orange’ is bred to be equally at home in the open garden, in the commercial flower field, or in a tunnel house.

Tough go-er in wind & heat

Flower growers and home gardeners love it because the flower spires are exceptionally weather hardy and windproof, as well as heat resistant.
So ‘Potomac Dark Orange’ is an excellent performing Snappie in Australian conditions.

Edible flowers

Snapdragon flowers are deliciously edible and make a sweet treat in salads, stir fries, fruit salads, drinks and as garnish.
So plant some in your veggie patch for both nibbling and cutting for vases.
Or just for letting the kids “snap” the Dragon’s jaws. Kids adore plucking the flowers and working the dragon’s mouth.

Deer & rabbit resistant

Happily, Snapdragons are not high on the menu list for rabbits and deer, who usually pass them by for fodder they find tastier.

Gorgeous in a pot too

Plant Antirrhinum majus ‘Potomac Dark Orange’ in Sun to Part Shade.
It also suits a wide range of soils, including sandy or clay, as long as the position is well drained.
And they are particularly lovely in a container or decorative pot because of their rich, exciting colouring, and exceptionally long blooming season.

Quick & easy to raise from seed & fast to bring to bloom

Antirrhinum majus is actually a short lived perennial and will go on blooming for several years if left in the garden over winter.
But because they are so quick and easy to raise from seed, and fast to bring to flower from seed, they are often grown as annual.
Personally I leave mine in the garden from year to year instead, and just trim them back to reshoot each spring.
They will also seed themselves in the garden in favourable conditions.

100cm High of tapering sizzling spires x 20cm Wide of neat, deep green foliage.
Though if well fed these dramatic spires can also reach 120cm. high.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow Antirrhinum majus ‘Potomac Dark Orange’ at any time indoors in a punnet for an early start with flowers. Or scatter directly in garden in winter and spring.

Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First sow the seeds on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then pat the surface lightly to ensure good contact of seeds to the mix, but do not cover.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath and allow the moisture to percolate to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place it in a warm, well lit position (not in direct sunlight).

Because temperatures of 15-25C are best for optimum and rapid germination.
You can also use a heat mat if you have one.
Though it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.

Then continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle.

Seeds germinate in approx. 10-15 days.

Seed Count: 15 seeds approx. per pack.
(Seeds of this new release are scarce but we always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
