Antirrhinum majus ‘Sweet Duet Apple Blossom’
FRAGRANT APPLE BLOSSOM SNAPPIES
Antirrhinum majus ‘Sweet Duet Apple Blossom’ is a whole new breakthrough in Snapdragons. THEY ARE DELICIOUSLY SCENTED
Sweetly scented towers of Snappies
The spires of ‘Sweet Duet Apple Blossom’ Snapdragons have an intense, sweet fragrance.
So these highly fragrant flowers are a joy in both the garden and the vase.
Each flower in delectable apple blossom pink blends
Each flower blends from palest blush pink edges to a rich pink centre.
The colouring is exquisite.
Larger flowers packed onto the spires
But the benefits of the newly bred “Sweet Duet” series don’t stop with the lovely fragrance.
Flower size has been enhanced.
So each individual flower is also much larger, and they are densely packed on the spire of blooms.
Very double blossoms
The flowers have also been bred to be very double and beautifully formed – to give a lovely frilly effect when they are so massed on the stems.
Improved vigour & branching to give a mass of frilly flowers
Antirrhinum majus ‘Sweet Duet Apple Blossom’ is a dwarf Snapdragon.
With special attention given to breeding a vigorous, healthy plant for a small space.
That grows with lots of branches low to the base – so it can bear maximum number of perfumed flowers.
Dwarf compact habit – perfect for pots, front edges & small gardens
So this compact, low, and much branched plant is properly weather resistant.
Making it perfect for pots (wonderful under a window or by the door where the perfume can overwhelm you).
Or planting along a front edge of the garden where you cant miss any of the scent and colour.
Making a plant of approx. 30-40cm. High x 30cm. Wide.
But big enough to pick for vases
Though “Sweet Duet” Snappies are dwarf plants, they are still big enough to harvest spires of flowers to make a fragrant vase or scented bouquet,
Edible flowers
Snapdragon flowers are deliciously edible and make a sweet treat in salads, stir fries, fruit salads, drinks and as garnish.
So plant some in your veggie patch for both nibbling and cutting for vases.
Or just for letting the kids “snap” the Dragon’s jaws. Kids adore plucking the flowers and working the dragon’s mouth.
Deer & rabbit resistant
Happily rabbits and deer do not enjoy the flowers as we do, and usually pass by to tastier fodder.
Easy garden grower
Plant ‘Sweet Duet Apple Blossom’ in Sun to Part Shade.
It also suits a wide range of soils, including sandy or clay, as long as the position is well drained.
Garden highlights for years to come
Antirrhinum majus ‘Sweet Duet Apple Blossom’ is actually a short lived perennial and will go on blooming for several years if left in the garden over winter.
But because they are so quick and easy to raise from seed, and fast to bring to flower from seed, they are often grown as annual.
Personally I leave mine in the garden from year to year instead, and just trim them back to reshoot each spring.
They will also self-sow in the garden for new baby plants next year.
SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids
Sow at any time indoors in a punnet, whenever suitable temperatures can be provided (15-25°C).
OR
Scatter directly in garden in winter and spring.
Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First sow the seeds on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then pat the surface lightly to ensure good contact of seeds to the mix, but do not cover.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.
Now thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath and allow the moisture to percolate to the surface of the mix from below.
Then place it in a warm, well lit position (not in direct sunlight).
Because temperatures of 15-25°C are best for optimum and rapid germination.
You can also use a heat mat if you have one.
Though it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.
Then continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear lid or plastic bag will also help to maintain consistent moisture.
Remove cover once germination has commenced.
Seeds germinate in approx. 10-15 days.
Seed Count: 10 seeds approx. per pack.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
