SILVER PERENNIAL SNAPDRAGON

Antirrhinum sempervirens is a tough little groundcover and richly deserves it’s common name of Silver Perennial Snapdragon.

Silver & white snapdragons

Because Antirrhinum sempervirens is covered with white “Snapdragons” all through summer, sitting perkily above silver-grey velvety foliage.
It is long and constant blooming from spring through until well into autumn, and the flowers are large and such sparkling white.
While the foliage is an attractive, silver-grey carpet all year round.

Cheery & tough groundcover

So it makes a very cheery, long blooming, and rather elegant groundcover.
And a permanent pool of light in the garden.

Hardy in hot & dry

Antirrhinum sempervirens is not only pretty, but also a tough little customer.
Especially in hot and dry conditions.
Because it is native to rocky cliffs and hillsides around the Mediterranean where it revels in the sun, wind and full exposure.
So plant it confidently in Full Sun.
Though it will also tolerate a little shade as long as it is very well drained, well aired by wind, and kept on the dry side.

Brilliant in a decorative container

Brilliant Antirrhinum sempervirens grows as a low, dense, evergreen carpet.
But where it has the chance to also spill over an edge it stars.
So it makes a wonderful pot specimen, displaying it’s large Snapdragon flowers for ages, and the silver velvet leaves permanently.

Frost hardy & drought resistant

Antirrhinum sempervirens is hardy in frost, hot and dry conditions.
So it is a great water saving plant, drought resistant, and the darling of gardeners with limited water supplies.

Evergreen perennial groundcover.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow any time indoors in punnets, or scatter directly in garden in winter and spring.

Indoors: First sow the seeds on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then gently pat the surface to ensure the seeds have good contact with the mix.
But do not cover the seeds with any mix.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten by standing the sown punnet in a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to percolate to the surface from below.

Then place the punnet in a warm, well lit position (but not in any direct sunlight).
Temperatures around 15-20C. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.
You can use a temperature controlled heat mat if you have one.
But it is not essential as these seeds are willing and easy germinators.

Continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water-bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear plastic lid will help to maintain consistent moisture and prevent drying out.

Seeds germinate in approx. 10-21 days.

Seed Count: 50 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).

Seed sowing Tip: Please note this is extremely fine seed – it is a good idea when you open the seed packet to put a little finely sieved seed raising mix in the bag with the seed, shake around, and then sow the contents (seed + sieved mix together).
You will get more even coverage and not leave any fine seed behind in the bag.
