Armeria pseudameria, Great Sea Thrift: These beautiful large, spherical, dark pink blooms flower over a very long period during the warm summer months. Blooms are held on robust stems well above the cushion of deep green ornamental foliage. This species differs from Armeria maritima in that it produces larger clusters of flowers and is much taller. Will flower in just 15 weeks when grown from seed. This hardy evergreen perennial makes a wonderful cut flower. Enjoys full sun in well drained soil. Not fussy on soil type. 30cm H x 20cm W.
Sow indoors Sept to Nov. Prior to sowing soak seeds for 6-8 hours in water. Drain. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained, good quality seed raising mix. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of mix . Place in a propagator or seal in a polythene bag to maintain humidity. Ideal temp. 16-18°C. Germination takes 2-3 weeks approx. If germination does not occurr , place seed tray in a polythene ba in the fridge at 4°C for 3-4 weeks then return to warmth. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on in cooler conditions, an unheated poly house is ideal. Acclimatize and plant out when well grown.
