Artemesia frigida, Fringed Wormwood: Fringe Sage grows prolifically in the mountains and prairies of the Unite States. This tough, adaptable perennial also survives the harsh climates of Canada, Siberia and Mongolia. Used medicinally by the Native Americans & the early settlers to treat infection, coughs and indigestion. Dried bunches were also used to stuff pillows and mattresses because of its soft fragrance, it was also burned on the camp fires to repel unwanted insects. The soft mounds of feathery, silvery-green foliage makes a lovely ground cover. The tiny sulphur yellow and silver button flowers are held on small spires above the cushions during summer. Sow seed at any time onto the surface of good quality , well draining seed raising mix.. Place in a propagating dome in a well lit area 17 to 20 degrees C is ideal. Germination takes 30-60 days. Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle into 8cm pots. And grow on. Plant our after all danger of frost has past with 30cm spacing. Water regularly until established. Fully frost and dry hardy once mature.
