Sweet scent & misty blue

The soft blue flowers also have a sweet and lovely scent.

Sweet bouquets of cut flowers

Didiscus caeruleus ‘Lace Blue’ make the dreamiest cut flowers.
Because of their fine lacy domes, not to mention the fetching scent.

A florists dream flower

Plus they are wonderfully long lasting in a vase, and perfect for romantic bouquets.
So no professional florist can resist them.

Long blooming

Lace Flowers continue producing blooms for months through summer and autumn.
Especially as they are true “cut and come again” plants, meaning the more flowers you cut the more they bloom.

Very tolerant of adversity

Didiscus caeruleus ‘Lace Blue’ is also very obliging and easy to grow.
Because the plants tolerate most soil types, as long as the ground is not soggy.
And will also cope with a wide range of pH levels, though neutral soil is perfection to a Lace Flower.
Lace Flowers are not thirsty plants, and will happily thrive with minimal additional water in hot weather.
Though they do respond generously to fertilizer, compost and mulch by flowering even more profusely.

Rarely if ever troubled by pests & diseases

Didiscus caeruleus ‘Lace Blue’ rarely if ever has trouble from pests and diseases.
So they are low maintenance, trouble free growers.

But not top of the pops for rabbits and deer

But fortunately they are not “top of the pops” as fodder for rabbits and deer. The munching pests tend to ignore Lace Flowers unless really pushed.

Adored by bees & butterflies

However bees and butterflies cannot believe their luck as they frolic amongst the nectar rich domes of flowers.

Quick & easy from seed

Lace Flowers are so satisfying to raise from seed, even for beginners, as they are willing germinators. And you can never have too many as they look stunning planted in drifts and massed to create clouds of flowers.

Fast from seed to flower

From sowing the seeds to beginning to harvest the flowers is approximately 4 months.

70cm. High in clouds of dreamy, misty blue flowers x 20cm. Wide clump of lacy foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Didiscus caeruleus ‘Lace Blue’ seeds can be sown directly in the garden during spring-early summer (temperatures must be above 20C)/ or sow indoors at any time.

Sow indoors for quick & early flowers: First sow the seeds in a punnet on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then gently pat the seeds to the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
And cover very lightly with sieved mix, grit or vermiculite (it is fine seed and should not be buried).

Thoroughly moisten by standing the punnet in a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to percolate to the surface of the mix from below. Now drain.

Then cover the punnet with a dark cover such as black plastic or cardboard.
Because the seeds need dark to germinate.

Now place in a warm position.
And continue to keep moist by misting the surface of the mix from a spray water bottle, as required to keep it moist but not wet.

You can use a heat mat if you have one, but it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.

Temperatures around 18-20°C. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.

Seeds germinate in approx. 10-20 days.

Seed Count: 100 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
