Dierama igneum
DWARF ANGEL’S FISHING RODS

Dierama igneum is a dainty, dwarf, delightful little “Fairy Fishing Rod”.

Bunches of soft peachy tomato bells

Bunches of soft peachy-tomato bells dangle on graceful arching stems in spring and early summer.
And although this is an unusual colour, it is a charming sight with the warm bells hovering above a dense clump of fine little Iris like leaves.
So the whole plant is dainty and refined.

Lovely cut flowers

And the clusters of warm bells make excellent cut flowers, on clean stems long enough for an average size vase.

Hardy & easy to grow

Dierama igneum is a neat, evergreen perennial clump, which is hardy and easy to grow.
So plant your clumps in Full Sun to Part Shade.
They are easily pleased in most soils, thriving in everything except a bog, as wet feet can rot out the bulbous root system.

Water-wise & frost hardy

Plus this frost hardy, un-fussy evergreen perennial clumps up densely.
And once established the robust little clumps are water-wise and resistant to periods of dry, as long as they get an occasional deep watering.

60cm H x 30cm W.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: EASY

Sow at any time of year in punnets indoors, except mid-summer.

Germination may be hastened by soaking the seeds overnight in a glass of clean, warm (not boiling) water, before you sow them.

Then sow seeds in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Press seeds gently into the surface, then barely cover with no more than 3mm of mix / vermiculite / fine sandy grit.
Because light is needed for seed germination.

Now place the sown punnet in a warm, well-lit position, such as a window sill (but not in direct sunlight).

Then keep mix moist but not sodden.

Temperatures of 15-20°C approx. are best for optimum germination.
So you can use a temperature controlled heat mat if you have one, or just use the natural warmth of the house.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 30 days.
But do not discard your punnet because some seeds may come later (this is a natural device by the plant to give the seedlings a better chance to avoid problems by staggering germination).

SEED COUNT: 10 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
