Digitalis purpurea ‘Pam’s Split’
PAM’S SPLIT FOXGLOVE

Digitalis purpurea ‘Pam’s Split’ is a beautiful freak of nature.

Beautiful burgundy & white freak of nature

‘Pam’s Split’ is an offshoot from the beloved variety ‘Pam’s Choice’; and has the same outstandingly beautiful colouring of sparkling white petals with deep burgundy throats.

Splits like pantaloons

However the freakish thing is that each flower is split to the base, giving them the look of old fashioned bloomers or pantaloons, fluttering in the breeze.
So the spires are packed with these large, fluttering pantaloons flowers.

Long lasting display

Digitalis purpurea ‘Pam’s Split’ is also longer blooming than it’s parent, having many side flower spikes which keep on coming after the initial spike has finished.
Hence ‘Pam’s Split is shorter, sturdy in wind, and even longer blooming than ‘Pam’s Choice’.

Outstandingly beautiful

Digitalis purpurea ‘Pam’s Split’ begins blooming in spring and goes right into the summer months.
With so many side spires continuing to be produced after the central spire.
So as spires finish, trim off the spent stems to encourage all those side flowers spires.

Easy & unfussy to grow

Digitalis purpurea ‘Pam’s Split’ enjoys Full Sun to Shade, in well drained soil.
Though it is most content enjoying the Dappled Light and Shade underneath trees and shrubs.
You can also prolong blooming over the warmer months, by mulching the area well, and giving a occasional deep watering
Though Foxgloves are great survivors, valued for being water-wise and unthirsty plants, as well as
thoroughly frost hardy.

Rabbit and deer resistant

Rabbits and deer give all forms of Digitalis purpurea a wide berth.

Beloved by bees & pollinators

Bees and other welcome pollinators just love dashing in and out of the Foxglove trumpets busily gathering food. The split petals in ‘Pam’s Split’ just makes their work even easier.
Nectar sipping birds love the flowers in spring, and the seed eaters love the autumn seed heads. So leave a few for the birds to share too.

Very reliable self seeder

‘Pam’s Split’ is a very reliable self-seeding biennial.
So always leave a stem or two to go to seed. Or cut stems with seed pods and lay them down on the ground as a mulch where you would like next year’s crop of pantaloon towers.

Spires of 90cm with large, split, fluttering flowers x evergreen rosette clump of low foliage 60cm Wide.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow Digitalis purpurea ‘Pam’s Split’ seeds outdoors in spring / or sow indoors at any time for maximum germination.

Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First sow Digitalis seeds on surface of good quality compost or seed raising mix, at any time.
But do not cover with compost as these seeds need light to germinate.

Then thoroughly moisten the mix by standing the sown punnet in a shallow water bath.
And allowing the moisture to percolate to the surface from below.

Now place the punnet in a warm, well-lit  place.
You can use a heat mat if you have one, but it is not essential, as these seeds are willing germinators.
And covering the punnet with a clear plastic lid helps to retain consistent moisture.

Temperatures of 15-20 degrees C. are ideal for rapid and maximum germination.

Continue to keep moist at all times by misting from a spray water bottle, but do not saturate.

Seeds germinate in 14 to 21 days approx.

Then pot on the seedlings to harden off and mature. Before finally planting out in the garden.

Seed Count: 12 seeds per pack approx. (Seeds of this unusual beauty are scarce at the moment)
