SPANISH PERENNIAL FOXGLOVE
Beautiful large trumpets of waxy rose-pink, make Digitalis thapsi a cut above the usual Foxglove in good looks.
But when you add the fact that this charming Foxglove from Spain is also a perennial, rather than an biennial, than it becomes doubly attractive.
And then you also add that this Spanish Perennial Foxglove comes ready made with built in heat and drought resistance, and it becomes indispensable.
Water-wise plus hardy in heat, frost, poorer soils
As a native of Spain Digitalis thapsi is hardy in heat, frost, poorer soils, and can cope with dry periods.
So it is a water-wise plant, suitable for gardeners with limited water budgets.
And you can plant it in Full Sun to Part Shade, making it a versatile and hard working garden companion.
Handsome, neat perennial
Digitalis thapsi is a hardy, evergreen perennial clump, which will also gently self-sow each year.
So you will always have it.
And any unwanted volunteer seedlings in the garden are easily weeded out (if you can bear to do it they are so pretty), or better still dig out and share with gardening friends (but they have to be good gardening friends to deserve this Spanish beauty).
Each plant makes a handsome, neat, evergreen foliage rosette.
Flower spires 60cm H x an evergreen foliage clump 45cm W.
SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Sow Digitalis thapsi at any time of year in punnets indoors / or scatter in garden late winter-early spring.
Sow in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
And press the seeds gently into the surface of the mix.
But do not cover the seeds, as light is needed for germination.
Now keep your sown punnet moist, in a warm, well-lit position.
And you can use temperature controlled heat mat if you have one.
But a window-sill or other warm, well-lit place will do just as well (not in direct sunlight), as these seeds are very easy to germinate.
Because temperatures of 15-20°C approx. are optimum for rapid and thorough germination.
Seedlings emerge in approx. 14-30 days.
SEED COUNT: 250 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
