Echinops bannaticus ‘Blue Glow’

Echinops bannaticus ‘Blue Glow’ bears hundreds of ‘golf ball’ size, pretty, soft, pale blue spheres all through summer.

Then these slowly change to silver-green over the season.
The golf ball flowers are adored by bees and butterfly’s throughout the summer and provide a rich source of nectar for them.

The blooms of Echinops bannaticus ‘Blue Glow’ are also excellent to cut for fresh flowers.
And lovely dried for a winter display too.

Meanwhile grey green foliage forms a large clump and is a subtle foil for the lovely flowers.

Echinops bannaticus ‘Blue Glow’  tolerates most soils, even poor soils. Though their position must be well drained and in full sun.
So it is excellent for our Australian conditions and dryer gardens

Perennial clump 1.m High of stout stems topped by golf ball flowers x 1m Wide of grey-green foliage.

Sow at any time of year in punnets indoors / or scatter in garden late winter-early spring.

INDOORS: Sow seeds in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix. Then press the seeds gently into the surface of the mix.
Then cover the seeds lightly with mix to a depth the same diameter as the seed.
As light is needed for germination, do not cover too deeply.

Now keep the punnet moist in a warm, well lit position.
A warm window sill or corner is perfect (but not in direct sunlight).
And you can use a temperature controlled heat mat, if you have one.

Temperatures of 20-25°C approx. are best for optimum germination.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 10-21 days.

SEED COUNT: 10 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
