Echinops ritro ‘Veitch’s Blue’
VEITCH’S BLUE GLOBE FLOWERS

For my money, Echinops ritro ‘Veitch’s Blue’ is the finest and best of all the Globe Flowers.

Glowing globes of deep, rich violet-blue

Because ‘Veitch’s Blue’ has the most intensely coloured globes of all.
With deep, rich violet-blue globes, the size of golf balls, all summer and autumn.
All Echinops are lovely, but Veitch’s Blue is a stunner for intensity and richness of colour.

Handsome silvery foliage

While silvery blue leaves with woolly undersides, also add great garden value all year.

Superb cut flowers for floristry

The richly coloured globes are excellent cut for fresh vase flowers or for drying, as they hold their deep violet-blue colour particularly well.
And are borne on long, strong, straight stems that are easy to harvest.

More compact & neat growing Globe Flower

Echinops ritro ‘Veitch’s Blue’ is the most compact and smallest growing of all the Echinops family.
There is nothing course about this little beauty.
It can fit into even small gardens, and is worthy of a place in any garden.

Hardy in heat & dry

Echinops ritro ‘Veitch’s Blue’ relishes Full Sun, and is undaunted by heat.
So it is a water-wise plant and an excellent choice for gardeners with limited water, or hot and dry climates.

Frost hardy & water-wise

This hardy beauty copes in a wide range of soils, including sandy, gravel and poorer soils.
In fact they do better if they are not overfed.
It is also very frost hardy.
But it does require good drainage, and will become miserable in waterlogged heavy soil.

Easy care & low maintenance

Echinops ritro ‘Veitch’s Blue’ is an easy care, low maintenance plant.
Just cut to the whole plant ground in late autumn to tidy up, otherwise it is very self sufficient.

Rabbit & deer resistant

It is rarely if ever troubled by pests or diseases.
And not even rabbits and deer are particularly attracted to it, so it rates high for rabbit and deer resistance.

But bees, butterflies, & other pollinators cant get enough of the nectar

Our pollinating friends just can’t leave the Echinops flowers alone, because of the rich nectar.
And the very long blooming, and continuous procession of flowers, is such a help to them, and persuades them to stay in your garden.

Quick & easy from seed to flower

Echinops ritro ‘Veitch’s Blue’ is a compact, hardy, evergreen perennial clump.
And this cheery perennial will flower in the first year from seed, if you start sowing early.

Flowers 90cm High x 60cm Wide foliage clump.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suits beginners & gardening with kids

Sow at any time of year in punnets indoors when suitable temperatures can be provided.
OR
Scatter seed in the garden during late winter-early spring.

Sow indoors for maximum germination and quick plants: First sow the seeds in a punnet on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press the seeds gently into the surface of the mix.

Now cover the seeds lightly with sieved mix to a depth approx. the same diameter as the seed.
As light is needed for germination for these seeds – so do not cover too deeply.

Then place the punnet moist in a warm, well lit position.
A warm window sill or corner is perfect (but not in any direct sunlight).
And you can use a temperature controlled heat mat, if you have one.

Temperatures of 20-25°C approx. are best for optimum germination.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 10-21 days.

Seed Count: 20 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
