Geum chiloense Blazing Sunset, Water Avens Blazing Sunset: Brilliant discs of double, vermillion/copper flowers wave in the breeze on their long wiry stems during spring summer and autumn. Flowers year round in frost free areas. Blooms in the first year from seed if sown early. A hardy perennial with a rosette of deep green lobed foliage. Thrives in most well drained soils with plenty of mulch. Enjoys moisture in warmer months. Heat and frost hardy. Sun to 1/2 shade. 60cm H x 30cm W.
Sow Geum seed in late summer autumn or late winter spring. Sow onto well drained good quality seed raising mix and just cover with vermiculite. Place in a well lit area on heat mat at 18 to 22°C or poly house . Keep moist but not wet at all times. We recommend watering from the bas of the tray. Germination is generally within 21-28 days but could take a little longer. Prick out each seedling once it has it’s first set of true leaves into 7.5cm pots with good draining mix and grow on in poly house until large enough to plant outdoors during spring.
