Heliopsis helianthoides scabra ‘Burning Hearts’ – A new oxeye daisy with dark foliage and strong purple stems, offering an appealing contrast to the golden daisy flowers with hearts of fire. A slow starter, but by year two they are firmly established and bloom all summer to autumn. A bushy strong upright grower in poor soil in sun.
Sow Heliopsis helianthoides scabra indoors in late winter to early spring. Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about 20 degrees C. Cover seeds thinly. Do not cover very small seeds but tightly press into the seed raising mix. Keep in cooler conditions after germination occurs, planting out in early summer.
