Common Name: Giant Poker
Seed Count: 25
Family: Hardy Perennial
Probably the most impressive of all Red-hot-pokers. Large recurved aloe–like grey green leaves. In spring flower stalks appear which by summer have reached height of 1.7m well above the foliage with dense ovoid heads that are pinkish red in bud and open pale yellow. Some rebloom in the autumn. Enjoys full sun to light shade and not fussy on soil type. Dry and frost hardy. 1.7m x 1.2m.
Seed can be sown at any time. Sow seed into good quality compost or seed raising mix. Cover with river sand or compost to seeds own depth. Seed tray must be kept moist at all times. Keep at a gentle heat of 15-20 degrees C. Germination may take 14 to 45 days. They resemble small blades of grass. Prick out each seedling as they become large enough to handle. Plant seedlings outside after frosts have finished once they have hardened off and large enough. Young plants are frost tender.
