Lamprocapnos spectabilis (Syn. Dicentra spectabilis)
GIANT PINK BLEEDING HEARTS
Lamprocapnos spectabilis is a raving beauty.
Chains of dangling pink lockets
With chains of pink, heart shaped flowers – which dangle enticingly from stems arching above the foliage in spring.
So they look like long chains of lockets, or swags of bleeding hearts when in flower.
Dainty ferny foliage
And the foliage is dainty and pretty in a ferny way – rather like a giant Maidenhair fern.
These plants are all class.
Superb & long lasting cut flowers on long arching stems
Stems of Lamprocapnos spectabilis flowers also make superb and long lasting cut flowers in a vase.
Plant under trees & shrubs
Giant Pink Bleeding Hearts love nestling under trees and shrubs in Dappled Light and Shade. Where the larger woodland companions shelter their long chains from winds and the late afternoon sun.
Enrich the soil & mulch well
Plant Giant Bleeding Hearts in a rich moisture retentive soil.
And they are not particularly fussy about soil type, acid or alkaline, as long as it has plenty of humus.
So they adore mulch and compost, and tolerate enriched clay as well as loam.
Very frost hardy
Plus they are very frost hardy, tolerating frost down to -30°C..
Long lived perennial
Lamprocapnos spectabilis is a long lived perennial clump.
Beautiful autumn foliage colour
It does a golden autumn foliage colour change, and then goes to sleep for the winter.
Then the new leaves and stems emerging in late winter-early spring are a delight of the garden.
And blooms come and the foliage is very decorative until next winter.
With you for many years
Thank heavens magnificent Giant Pink Bleeding Heart will be delighting you in the garden foe many years.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: Warm – Cold – Cool
Sow indoors in a punnet: First sow the seeds in a punnet of good quality seed raising mix.
Then barely cover the seeds with sieved mix / fine vermiculite, as these seeds need light to germinate.
Now place the punnet in a shallow bath of water to thoroughly moisten, allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.
Place the moist, sown punnet in a well lit position (NOT in any direct sunlight – as this will dry the seeds out and prevent germination) for 2 to 4 weeks.
Temperatures of 18-22°C are ideal for this pre-conditioning .
Then cling-wrap the moist punnet and move to the fridge (not freezer) for 4 to 6 weeks.
Finally bring back into a cool position at 5 to 12°C for seed germination.
Seeds will germinate at individual times, taking from 30 to 180 days.
But, the wait is really worth it for this beautiful plant.
Seed Count: 5 seeds per pack.
