Lavandula angustifolia ‘Ellagance Snow’
SNOWY ENGLISH LAVENDER

Lavandula angustifolia ‘Ellagance Snow’ is a recent release, specially bred for compact growth; profuse flower and perfume; plus quick growth from seed to flowering in the same year.

Elegant cool grey & white

‘Ellagance Snow’ is cool and elegant with dense grey-green leaves and spikes of pure white flowers.
It has been bred for a long blooming season through the heat of summer, so it is a pool of cool when we are sweltering.
Though the blooms have also been bred to resist ‘bluing’ in cooler temperatures (a problem that afflicts many other white Lavenders).

Big fragrance from a small bush

One of the great pleasures of life is sniffing English Lavender.
And the breeders have not neglected fragrance in the making of ‘Ellagance Snow’.

So you should pick some flowers or foliage every time you pass, rub it in your hands, and drink in the scent. (The plant won’t mind – they love being trimmed).

Bred to be naturally neat & compact

Lavandula angustifolia ‘Ellagance Snow’ is far superior to older varieties for compact, dense growth, size and flower quality in the spikes, as well as an early start to a very long blooming season.
So it grows to a naturally rounded, tight 35cm ball, making it perfect for low garden hedges, trimming into decorative balls, or featuring in a pot.

Useful in the kitchen, vase & garden

It is also useful in the kitchen for cooking, potpourri, and in vases of cut flowers.
Because both the flavour and scent are pure and sweet, with the taint of high camphor content.

Magnet for bees in the heat of summer

‘Ellagance Snow’ flowers in the heat of summer, with a rich sweet scent highly attractive to bees as well as to us gardeners.

Water-wise & Drought hardy

Lavandula angustifolia ‘Ellagance Snow’ relishes a position in Full Sun, where it can really intensify the essential oils.
It will tolerate acid soil, but really thrives in alkaline soils.
So make sure you treat it with a handful of lime twice a year.
And it will hate you if you plant it in a heavy or waterlogged spot.

Remains spruce through winter

‘Ellagance Snow’ is winter hardy and more cold tolerant than many older Lavenders.
So the foliage holds up better and the little shrub remains spruce and well clothed, instead of becoming winter ragged.

Perfect for gardens with limited water

Lavandula angustifolia ‘Ellagance Snow’ is a very water-wise choice for gardeners with limited water or life in a pot.
It is drought resistant, and toughly hardy in heat and frost.

‘Ellagance Snow’ has won the prestigious European Fleuroselect Gold Medal.

Quick & easy to raise from seed to flower

The new “Ellagance” series of Lavenders are a dream for seed-raisers, as they have been recently bred for the job.
So the time from seed to flower can be as little as 12 weeks, if sown indoors in late winter-early spring.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow winter to late spring-early spring or sow in late summer to autumn.

Sow indoors for quick & early flowers: First sow the seed in a punnet on the surface of a well-drained, seed raising mix.
Then press the seeds gently to the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
Now barely sprinkle the seeds with sieved mix or vermiculite, as these seeds need light to germinate.

Stand the sown punnet in a shallow water bath, and allow the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place the punnet in warm, well-lit place (not in any direct sunlight).
Temperatures of 15- 20°C approx. are best for fast and optimum germination rate.

Seedlings emerge in approx 10-14 days.

Seed Count: 10 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
