Limonium sinuatum ‘QIS Lavender’
LAVENDER STATICE
Limonium sinuatum ‘QIS Lavender’ has abundant Statice blooms of true lavender colour, highlighted with the odd white bract.
QIS stands for “Quality In Seed”
The QIS range of Statice have been specially bred as a superior, modern improvement over standard seed varieties.
So QIS Limonium plants now have much more uniform growth, beautiful colours, bigger flower size, and longer, stronger flower stems. Plus “non-shattering” flowers.
“Non-shattering” flowers
One of the many superior advantages of the QIS series of Statice is their “non-shattering” flowers. The papery bracts are much more robust and resistant to damage, and shattering – making them by far the superior choice for floristry, lasting arrangements and transporting.
Loved by florists, flower farmers & home gardeners
Hence florists love Limonium sinuatum ‘QIS Lavender’ just as much as home gardeners do.
Because of the lovely lavender colouring, plus their much improved flower and plant qualities.
True lavender everlasting cut flowers
The ability of Statice flowers to last for ages in a vase is well known.
Either when they are picked fresh or dried for later use.
And the much improved ‘QIS Lavender’ variety holds that lovely colour so well, for so long when dried.
Without the papery flowers fading, washing out or shattering.
Plus the extra long, clean stems and particularly large heads of fine flowers, make it essential for floristry.
Quick & easy to grow from seed
Limonium sinuatum ‘QIS Lavender’ is very quick and easy to grow from seed.
And if you start your seed early, you can harvest blooms right through the summer and autumn of that same year.
Thrives in a hot sunny garden
‘QIS Lavender’ is drought tolerant once established in the garden or field.
It revels in the sun and heat of summer, and the flower colour is unfading no matter how hot the sun’s rays.
Ideal for gardeners with limited water or by the sea
So it is ideal for gardeners with hot conditions or limited water; seaside; sandy and windy sites.
Salt & wind resistant
Limonium sinuatum ‘QIS Lavender’ is tolerant of salt laden air, as well as some salt in the water or soil, and resistant to wind damage too.
Not choosy about soil type
Nor is it choosy about soil type, as long as the soil is well drained.
Then it can tolerate soils on both the acid and alkaline side of neutral.
So easy to raise & grow
Limonium sinuatum ‘QIS Lavender’ is fast growing.
It is actually a perennial in warm areas, but is so quick to grow from seed that it is often treated as an annual.
Quick from seed
Statice is very easily raised from seed and just as easily grown in the garden.
The seeds germinate in under a week, and plants are in flower in approx. 3 to 3.5 months from the day of sowing the seeds.
75-80cm High in flower x 30cm Wide flat to the ground foliage clump.
Rabbits & deer are not keen
The tough leaves, stems and papery flowers are not attractive to rabbits and deer.
So the nibbling pests tend to have it at the bottom of their menu card.
But bees, butterflies & useful pollinators flock to Statice
While bees, butterflies and our other pollinating friends just love Statice flowers for their abundant nectar and pollen.
And appreciate them for their very long blooming season through all the hot months – when so many other flowers have already given up.
How to dry Statice Flowers: Simply cut the stem to the base, remove the foliage, and hang them upside-down in a dry, well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight – such as a pantry or garage. ‘QIS Lavender’ holds its lovely lavender colour for years when dried.
SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids
Seeds can be sown directly in the garden / field in spring.
OR
Sown indoors at any time, when suitable temperatures are available (20-25°C) for early advanced plants.
Early indoor sowing will give the longest blooming season.
Sow indoors for quick & early flowers: First sow the seeds in a punnet on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then gently pat the seeds to the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
And cover lightly to a depth of 6mm approx. with sieved mix, grit or vermiculite.
Now place in a warm, well-lit position (not in any direct sun).
And continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water-bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear plastic lid or bag also helps to maintain moisture.
Light aids germination.
And you can use a heat mat if you have one, but it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.
Temperatures around 20-25°C. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.
Then seeds germinate in 5-14 days.
Seed Count: 20 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
