Nepeta nervosa ‘Pink Cat’
PINK CAT CATMINT
Nepeta nervosa ‘Pink Cat’ has large dense flower spikes of the most fetching hot pink.
So this one flower that always has it’s lipstick on.
Vivid large blooms on a dwarf Catmint
Even though the flowers spikes are large and vivid, Nepeta nervosa ‘Pink Cat’ is actually a dwarf, compact Catmint.
Handy, hardy, long blooming groundcover
So it makes a very handy, hardy, long blooming groundcover.
Plus the attractive blue-green leaves of ‘Pink Cat’ make the perfect complement to it’s own hot pink blooms, as well as a soft foil for other surrounding flower colours.
Repellent to insect pests in the veggie patch
Nepeta nervosa ‘Pink Cat’ is also useful the vegetable garden as well as the flower garden.
Because the aromatic, mint scented foliage is a repellent to aphids.
While bees, butterflies and other useful pollinators find the nectar rich flowers irresistible.
Companion plants for roses, veg & fruit
So Catmints in general have traditionally been valued as working companion plants in veggie patches, orchards and rose gardens.
The lovely colouring of Nepeta nervosa ‘Pink Cat’ makes it especially appealing as a companion underplanting for pink, red, lavender or white roses.
And it’s compact, low growth habit also makes it perfect for edging a vegetable or flower bed.
Resistant to deer and rabbits
It is with pleasure I can report that rabbits and deer dislike the flavour of the aromatic oils in the foliage. So they tend to leave Nepeta nervosa ‘Pink Cat’ at the bottom of their menu selection.
