Nepeta subsessilis ‘Pink Dreams’

PINK DREAMS CATMINT

Nepeta subsessilis ‘Pink Dreams’ is an outstanding Catmint.
With exceptionally large and showy pink heads.
And a satisfyingly long flowering period too.

Showy large heads of prettiest pink

The flower buds on ‘Pink Dreams’ are rose pink, and then as the flowers open and mature they transition through a range of pastel pinks. So the whole effect of the massed heads is very pretty in pink.

Sweetly aromatic insect repelling plant

Nepeta subsessilis ‘Pink Dreams’ forms a neat upright mound of aromatic, deep green foliage.
So it makes an excellent underplanting for roses, and is also a traditional insect repelling companion plant for veggies, orchards as well as roses.
The foliage has a sweet aromatic scent, and is a pleasure to brush as you walk by.

Rabbit & deer resistant but bee & bird friendly

‘Pink Dreams’ is easy to care for.
As it has virtually no pest or disease enemies, including rabbits and deer.
While our bees and insect pollinators, and even small native honey-eating birds, love foraging amongst the funnel flowers. They find it a reliable food source with its prolonged and repeat flowering.

An unusual shade loving Catmint

‘Pink Dreams’ grows best in Part Shade (unlike most of it’s grey-foliaged Catmint cousins) but will take Full Sun in cooler areas.
So it is a perfect underplanting to tuck beneath rose bushes or taller flowers and bushes in a garden bed. And makes an excellent border edge because of its neat growth habit, upright growing rather than sprawling.

Quick from seed to flower

It is frost hardy and tolerant of a wide range of soil types.
And is quick and easy to raise from seed, and early seed sowings will produce flowering plants for summer of the same year.

Nepeta subsessilis ‘Pink Dreams’ is also a low maintenance plant.
You can dead head by shearing back after the first flowering to encourage faster repeat flowerings if you wish.

Hardy perennial clump.
60cm. High in pink flower heads x 45cm. Wide sweetly scented foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow indoors in punnets at any time / or scatter in garden in spring.

INDOORS: First sow the seed on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then pat the seed gently to the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
Then barely cover the seed only very lightly with sieved mix / sand / grit.
Do not cover the seed to a depth more than the diameter of the seed.
because light helps germination.

Now moisten the punnet thoroughly by standing it in a shallow water bath.
And allow the moisture to percolate to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place the moist, sown punnet in a warm, well-lit position (not in direct sun).
Continue to keep moist.

Temperatures of 15-20°C optimum for rapid germination.

Seeds germinate in 7-14 days approx.

SEED COUNT: 25 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
