Penstemon digitalis ‘Husker Red’
RED LEAF BEARDTONGUE
Penstemon digitalis ‘Husker Red’ is a hardy clump forming perennial with white flowers stems reaching up to 90cm tall.
But the beautiful red-mahogany foliage is the indispensable feature.
And then the fine white, two lipped, tubular flowers make a beautiful contrast to the outstanding red foliage.
So erect, rigid stems of flowers make a pretty show from mid spring to early summer, but the foliage is a valuable feature all year round
Penstemon digitalis ‘Huskers Red’ is also known as the Foxglove Penstemon, because of the fine beauty and shape of the flowers.
And the new spring foliage is particularly red-chocolate in colour and looks great with daffodils and tulips. Then the foliage colour continues to deepen and enrich in the autumn months.
This tough and evergreen perennial enjoys wet winters and dry summers.
And it happily grows in Sun or Light shade.
90cm. High in flower x 60cm. Wide foliage clump.
SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Sow Pentemon seeds in good quality compost or seed raising mix at any time.
Then lightly cover with fine river sand or compost to their own depth.
And thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by placing in a water bat and allowing the moisture to percolate up through the mix from below.
Now place the punnet in a warm well-lit place (not in direct sunlight).
Temperatures of 15-20 degrees C. are best for rapid and optimum germination.
Continue to keep moist at all times, but do not saturate.
Then pot on seedlings to harden off and mature before finally planting out in the garden.
SEED COUNT: 100 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
