Primula beesiana – Closely related to P. bulleyana this is also known as a Candelabra Primula. Found in the mountain meadows of Yunnan province, China this is a fantastic primula for the summer garden, performing well in all soils that remain moist. Stout stems up to 60cm tall produce 6 to 8 whorls of deep pink flowers with a prominent yellow eye in late spring and throughout the summer months. These sit atop a rosette of lance shaped leaves. Ideal for streamside and pond side planting. Not fussy if in sun or shade as long as in moist conditions they will thrive. 60cm x 45cm.
Primula seed may be sown at any time onto a quality seed raising mix, barley cover seed so that 50% is still visible. Best germination temperature is between 10-15 degrees C. Temperature exceeding 15 degrees may prevent germination , and above 20 degrees C expect very little germination as most seeds go dormant as a protective measure. Germination takes between 3-6 weeks. Keep seedlings in a cool well lit location to grow on before planting out.
