Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Prima Papagena’
SALE: Buy 1 get 2 packs

Introduced in 2018, the lovely new strain of Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Prima Papagena’, is the prince amongst Pasque Flowers.
Instead of the plain single stars of the normal Pasque Flower, ‘Prima Papagena’ has delightfully fringed rather than plain, semi double rather then single, crocus shaped blooms.
And the colours range from creamy white, through pink, rich wine red, to light blue and violet.

Wonderful wildly harum-scarum silky seed heads

Then the late winter-early spring flowers are followed in summer by very ornamental fluffy seed heads that look like silky feather dusters.

Excellent cut flowers

And these gleaming seed heads of summer silk make lovely additions to a vase of cut flowers.
As do the flowers earlier in the season.
So all in all, Pasque Flowers deliver great value for a very long time, with their combination of buds, flowers, wonderful seed heads and lacy foliage.

Great garden value

So they are simply lovely planted among spring flowering bulbs, and extend the season superbly with their jewel like colours and silky seed heads.
And they do have the same a neat clump of the prettiest feathery foliage, like the other members of the family.

Hardy & easy to grow

Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Prima Papagena’ enjoys Full Sun to Part Shade and Dappled Sun positions.
Where they are tolerant of periods of dry, once settled in, and very hardy in winter frosts.
Plus they thrive in well drained soil, and relish mulch.
So all in all they are water-wise and drought resistant hardy little jewels.

Quick & easy from seed

‘Prima Papagena’ Pasque Flowers form neat & hardy perennial clumps, of exquisite flowers to 30cm H x 30cm W of decorative foliage mound.
And they are very easy care, low maintenance plants in the garden, rarely if ever troubled by any pests or diseases.
Plus they are quick and easy to grow from seed.

Sow Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Prima Papagena’ indoors in winter, spring or autumn / or scatter outdoors during winter or spring.

Sow indoors for quick plants & early flowers: Sow seeds in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press the seeds gently into the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
But do not cover the seeds with mix.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now keep the sown punnet moist in well-lit position.
A bright window-sill or well lit corner is perfect (but not in direct sunlight).
You can use a temperature-controlled heat mat if you have one, but this is not essential as these seeds are easy and quick to germinate.

Temperatures of 15-21°C. are optimum for rapid and thorough germination.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 21-28 days.

But if the seeds are shy to germinate – Cling wrap your moist punnet.
And place in fridge (not freezer) for 4-6 weeks to break the seeds dormancy with a “pretend winter”.

Then remove, unwrap & return to a well-lit position at 15-21°C.
Keep moist until ready to prick out.

Seed Count: 20 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
