Native to the Mediterranean and Asia this ornamental dwarf variety of Pomegranate is ideal for pots and bonsai and in small courtyards. The shrub ideally reaches 1m and flowers and produces fruit when 30cm tall. The Bright orange red single blooms occur in late summer autumn these are followed by small 5cm red fruits. Pomegranate seed may be sown at any time of the year. Sow seeds at a depth of 12mm (1/2 inch) in good quality seed raining mix. Seed needs light to germinate so do not cover. Place seed in warm position in bright light and keep just moist at all times. Use a propagator and heat bed if possible so that temperatures fluctuate between 20°C at night 30°C during the day. Seeds usually germinate in 21 to 30 days. Transplant when large enough to handle in to deep container not shallow. Keep moist at all times, in a well lit position away from frost and drying winds. Flowers well when slightly root-bound.
