Reseda odorata ‘Machet Mignonette’ – This old-fashioned Victorian favourite is lovely in the mixed border. The small white spikes of fringed, red flowers possess a wonderful sweet ambrosia-like fragrance with a hint of raspberry & its sweet fragrance is used in perfumes.
The plants do not transplant well, so prepare a seedbed and place the seeds on the surface, pressing them into the soil and barely covering. Maintain moisture until germination occurs. Thin the Mignonette seedlings to the strongest plant, 30cms apart. Young Reseda Odorata plants should be pinched back to encourage a bushier growth habit. Mignonette seeds can be sown over a period of time to create a longer growing season.
