Salvia argentea

Salvia argentea is commonly known as Silver Sage because of it’s spectacular foliage.
Because it forms rosettes of large, silver, velvety leaves that sit flat to the ground and are very decorative in their own right.
So it would not matter if it did not bloom.
But oh how it does bloom!!!

Equally spectacular branching heads of white blooms soar up for long over summer.

Plant Salvia argentea in Full Sun.
Where you will find it very satisfyingly water-wise.
It is also wonderfully hardy in frost, dry & heat.
And to complete the hardiness credentials it also thrives best in poorer soil, sandy or gravel conditions.
So of course it absolutely resents beig damp or water-logged and will desert you rapidly if it is overwatered.

Salvia argentea is a self-sowing biennial.
So you just need to get a start with them in the garden, and then they will supply their own babies each year, as long as you leave some of the wonderful flower stems to go to seed and scatter the offspring.

Hardy, easy, low maintenance.
90cm High in branching, showy flower heads x 60cm Wide of the most stunning foliage flat to the ground.

Sow at any time of year in punnets indoors.

Sow in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press the seeds gently to the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.

Now barely cover with sieved mix, sand or grit.
Because light is needed for germination.

Continue to keep the sown punnet consistently moist, but not waterlogged.

Temperatures of 20-25C approx. are best for rapid and optimum germination.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 10-14 days.
But do not discard the punnet too quickly after the first seeds have popped up – as desert plants naturally stagger their germination.

SEED COUNT: 15 seeds per pack.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
