Thalictrum aquilegiifolium Mixed Purples, Pinks & White
FLUFFY DOTS

Thalictrum aquilegiifolium has graceful fluffy heads of flowers during summer and autumn, and elegant, ferny-fine, blue-green foliage.

Mix of purples, pinks & white fluffy flowers

This packet is a mix of seeds from a range of Thalictrum aquilegiifolium plants – with flarge, fluffy flower heads in purples, mauves, lilac-pinks and white fluffy.
Each head is made up of many, many fuzz-balls, so they well earn their common name of Fluffy Dots.
But all on tall, elegant willowy plants with the beautiful blue-green ferny foliage.

Elegant, graceful good looks

Fine and lacy blue-grey leaves greatly add to the elegant good looks.
While the large, frothy flower heads are very showy, but always remain refined.
Thalictrum aquilegiifolium is a classy plant in all respects, and thoroughly useful as well as hardy.

Excellent cut blooms & garden show

Thalictrum aquilegiifolium gives wonderful frothy stems to use as cut flowers, and they last so well in a vase.

Hardy & easy under trees & shrubs

Thalictrum aquilegiifolium is also hardy & easy to grow, particularly under trees and shrubs.
So plant them in positions of Fully Shaded to Partially Shaded positions, and they purr in Dappled Shade or Morning Sun.
The plants can tolerate dry shade well, as well as a wide range of soils.
They are well able to compete with companion trees and shrubs.
And they positively romp with fertilizer and some additional water.

Tough, disease & pest resistant garden plants

Plants of Thalictrum aquilegiifolium are very low maintenance and rarely if ever troubled by any pests and diseases.
“Fluffy Dots” are also thoroughly frost hardy, though they are not suited to tropical areas with high summer humidity.
And they are easily pleased in a wide range of soils; from sandy loam to clay; from lime based alkaline soils to acid soils beside the azaleas.
They will even tolerate poorly drained clay if necessary.

Low maintenance

There is virtually no work to do until the end of autumn when the spent flower towers can be cut to the ground to tidy up for winter.
Though Thalictrum aquilegiifolium is a tall and willowy plant – it is largely self-supporting and will only need staking in high-wind areas.

A pleasure for bees & birds

Bees are besotted by the nectar-rich, fluffy flower heads during summer and autumn.
And don’t be too hasty to cut down the seed heads at the beginning of winter, because the small seed eating birds love to feast on them over the cold months.

Deer & bunny resistant

Thalictrum aquilegiifolium is such a trouble-free garden plant, even rabbits and deer are not partial to eating it.

Self-seeding in shaded spots

These graceful but easy-going beauties will self-sow in their happy place under trees and shrubs.

90cm. High of fluffy foamy flower heads (or taller in good conditions) x 60cm. Wide fine ferny, blue-grey foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow in autumn, winter & spring in punnets indoors / or scatter in the garden in early spring.

Sow indoors for early plants: First sow the seeds in a punnet on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then barely cover the seed with finely sieved mix / fine vermiculite / or fine sandy grit.
Because light aids germination with these seeds, so do not bury.

Now thoroughly moisten the punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath, and allowing the water to percolate up to the surface from below.

Now drain and place the punnet in a well-lit position (not in any direct sunlight).

Temperatures of 13-16C approx. are best for rapid and optimum germination.
You can also use a temperature controlled heat mat if you are sowing during cold weather.

Continue to keep the sown punnet consistently moist, but not wet, by misting from a spray water-bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear plastic lid or plastic bag will help to maintain consistent moisture.

Most seedlings emerge in approx. 14-21 days.

However if the seeds are shy to emerge.
Then wrap the punnet in cling wrap and place in the fridge (not freezer) for 3 weeks.
After a minimum of 3 weeks, unwrap the punnet and return to a well-lit position at 13-16C.

Seed Count: 20 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
