Thalictrum delavayi bears clouds of finest purple flowers, through summer and autumn.
Ferny blue-grey foliage also adds to the fine and misty effect.
And these billowing great heads of tiny blooms make excellent cut flowers, as well as a charming and eye-catching garden display.
It really does deserve the common name of “Lavender Showers” – it does look like a cloud full of lavender raindrops.

But don’t let dainty looks fool you – Hardy & easy to grow

Plant Thalictrum delavayi in Shade to ½ Shade, Part Sun to Full Sun.
Though it is exceptionally happy in the dappled light underneath trees and shrubs.
And once established it can tolerate dry shade positions, and wide range of soils too.
It is a robust, hardy, and easy to grow plant for all those dainty good looks.

And rabbits and deer tend to treat it with ignore.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow in autumn, winter & spring in punnets indoors / or scatter in the garden in early spring.

INDOORS: Sow in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press the seeds gently onto the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
But only barely cover seed with mix / vermiculite / fine sandy grit, as light aids germination.

Now place the sown, moist punnet in a warm, well-lit place (not in direct sunlight).
You can use a temperature controlled heat mat if you have one, to provide ideal conditions, but it is not essential.
And keep the punnet moist but not wet.
A water spray bottle is useful.

Temperatures of 13-16°Capprox. are best for rapid and optimum germination.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 14-21 days.

If seeds are shy to germinate on time – then wrap the moist, sown punnet in cling wrap (or a plastic bag) and place in the fridge (not freezer) for 3 weeks, then unwrap & return to 13-16°C.
