Veratrum nigrum BLACK FALSE HELLEBORE

Veratrum nigrum attracts with dramatic spires of purple-black stars in summer and autumn.

Decorative pleated, spiral foliage clumps.

Part Shade to Shade.
Tolerates wide range of soils including clay & lime. Frost hardy perennial clump.

1.2m High flower spires x 60cm Wide decorative clump of pleated foliage.

Caution: All parts of plant are toxic – Do not eat.

Sow in autumn, winter or spring in punnets.

First soak in warm water for 12 hours.

Then sow the seeds in punnet on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.

Now cover the seed to the same depth as the diameter of the seed. Using sieved mix / vermiculite / fine sandy grit.

Continue to keep the sown punnet consistently moist but not wet, by misting from a spray water bottle.

Temperatures of approx. 15C approx. are beneficial at this stage.
Keep the punnet in a well lit position (but not in direct sunlight) for 2 weeks .

Then wrap the punnet in cling wrap & place in fridge (not freezer) for 12 weeks.

Finally remove from fridge, unwrap punnet and return to 13-15C.
Seedlings will emerge at various times over next 12 weeks, and form small bulbs.

SEED COUNT: 15 seeds per pack approx.
