False Indigo is an excellent choice for sunny gardens. Plants form a 1m tall, bushy clump of grey-green foliage, with long spikes of pea-like flowers, in shades of violet-blue. Drought tolerant, once established.
For best results, sow immediately onto a good soil-based compost. Cover the seeds with fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. They can be sown at any time, and germination can sometimes be quicker if kept at 15 to 20 degrees C. As many seeds have built-in dormancy mechanisms, waiting for natural spring germination can be a good idea.
