Native to eastern North America where it grows in rich woodlands and where the indians have used it in the treatment of snakebite. This magnificent and very valuable mid or back of border plant has purplish stems carrying erect spires of fragrant white bottlebrush like flowers in mid Autumn, from March -April. Enjoys full sun to part shade in a sheltered part of the garden. Needs some moisture over the warmer months.

Sowing Advice-
For best results, sow Cimicifuga seeds as soon as you receive them in a cool place onto a good quality free draining seed raising mix. Cover the seeds with fine vermiculite or mix to approximately their own depth. These seeds can be very slow indeed to germinate, and as a rule they wait for spring before emerging whenever they are sown. Please be very patient, and do not discard the seed pan, no matter how long it takes for germination to occur.
