Eryngium alpinum ‘Blue Star’ SEA HOLLY –
Native to the alpine pastures of Switzerland and the plants are extremely hardy and long-lived. It is an elegant species with large amethyst-blue flowers and metallic stems, it is one of the showiest of all the Sea Hollies.

Sowing Advice-
Sow Eryngium alpinum ‘Blue Star’ SEA HOLLY seeds at any time of the year int damp seed raising mix. Cover lightly with mix. Do not exclude from light. Germination is slow. After sowing, seal container in a polythene bag and leave at 15-18 degrees C. for 2 weeks, then place in the fridge (not freezer) for 3-6 weeks. After this period return to 15-18 degrees C. If germination does not occur in 6-10 weeks return to fridge for further 3-6 weeks. Check regularly whilst in fridge and remove immediately when the seeds show signs of germinating.

Sowing Direct-
Sea-Holly is a plant for coastal areas, maritime, wildlife and rock gardens. It requires dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought and maritime exposure, it needs sun as it cannot grow in the shade.
