Description

Potentilla thurberi Monarch’s Velvet – Monarchs Velvet Cinquefoil: Surely the most attractive of all the garden Potentilla. It is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial that is native to coniferous forests, stream banks and moist meadows in Arizona, New Mexico and northern Mexico.  Massed heads of velvety, deep raspberry red,  shade to crimson – black in the centre and flower over a very long period, it is upright in growth rather than ground cover like. The bright crinkled, green, strawberry like foliage  makes a perfect foil for the regal flowers.  Repeat flowers if cut back regularly. Excellent for planting under roses and shrubbery. Very easy , pest and disease resistant.  Enjoys full sun to part shade, in neutral to slightly acid soil that is  humus rich well drained.  70cm x 50cm.
