Description

Verbascum blattaria alba

Moth Mullein

Verbascum blattaria alba produces masses of flowers without taking up lots of space on the ground . The slender, gracious flower spikes  reach 120cm from which dark crimson buds open to reveal large white flowers with deep purple stamens . These arise from rosettes of glossy, crinkly dark green leaves during spring summer. This very hardy plant is suited to Australian gardens and looks marvelous in a cottage garden planting where it may gently self seed into gravel or empty corners. Enjoys full sun, well drained soil. 120cm H x 30cm W.

Sowing Advice

Seed can be sown at any time into a good quality compost or seed raising mix. Cover the seed with quality compost or fine river sand to approximately their own depth. Natural germination will occur if kept in an unheated poly house or covered seed raising tray.  Many seeds wait for Spring before emerging regardless of when they are sown so please give them a full season of growth before discarding. Germination can be quicker if kept at 15-20 Degrees C. Keep moist, but not saturated at all times.
