Long lived beauty

Martagon Lilies are hardy bulbous perennials – so they will happily return each year with little to no attention from you.

Easy care over summer

As a woodlander, it of course enjoys humus rich, well-drained soil.
But it is not a thirsty plant to grow, as it is dormant as an underground stolon during the hotter and drier parts of the year.

Turk’s Cap Lilies are extremely frost hardy, because they are adapted to withstand temperatures down to -30°C.
Their native habitat stretches from the summer heat of Portugal to the winter freezing of Canada.

Elegant slender height for shade

SEED SOWING ADVICE:

Sow Lilium martagon var. album seeds in a punnet indoors, at any time suitable temperatures can be given (18-20°C).

Sow indoors: Sow seeds on their sides (not flat like a pancake), in a punnet into the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then barely cover with grit/sieved mix/or vermiculite.

Now thoroughly moisten the punnet by placing it in a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place the punnet in a warm, well lit position (not in any direct sunlight).
Temperatures of 18-20°C are ideal.

Continue to keep the punnet consistently moist by misting from a spray water-bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear plastic cover or plastic bag will also help to maintain consistent moisture.

Keep the punnet warm and moist for 4 weeks.

Then cling-wrap the moist sown punnet and place it in the fridge (not freezer) for 6-9 weeks.

Now Remove from fridge, unwrap punnet and return again to the warm, well lit-position at approx. 18-20°C.

Seedlings emerge within approx. 30 days.
But patience – do not discard punnet, as some seedlings may come later.
Because this is a natural trick of this plant to stagger the emergence of its seedlings, to allow them the best chance of sprouting into ideal weather conditions.

Seed Count: 20 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the seed count and give a generous serve).
