Antirrhinum majus ‘Lucky Lips’
LUCKY LIPS SNAPDRAGONS

Antirrhinum majus ‘Lucky Lips’ is one of the most productive and attractive of all Snapdragons.

Silver white Snappies all wearing immaculate deep magenta lipstick

‘Lucky Lips’ bears single Snappies of extra large size, in a beautiful silver white colour; but with each dragon mouth adorned with deep-magenta.
As if each flower has just applied fresh lipstick.

Specially bred for long, tapering flower stems

Antirrhinum majus ‘Lucky Lips’ produces exceptionally long, tapering spires of flowers that are also remarkably large, and perfectly spaced along the stems.
These are elegant blooms.

Early & long picking

With an early starting, long, and prolific flowering period – through spring, summer and autumn. So if you get ‘Lucky Lips’ going from autumn seed sowings – you can have blooms from mid-spring onwards.
So of course florists adore them.

Florists adore graceful, stylish ‘Lucky Lips’ Snapdragons

Antirrhinum majus ‘Lucky Lips’  produces graceful, tall, elegant stems which can be up to a metre tall.
So florists find it smashing for striking arrangements.

Long lasting, elegant garden display

And it is just as impressive for long lasting garden displays.
Antirrhinum majus ‘Lucky Lips’ is bred to be equally at home in the open garden, in the commercial flower field, or for tunnel house production.
Antirrhinum majus ‘Lucky Lips’ has won the Fleuroselect Industry Award for all round quality.

Tough go-er in wind & heat

The flower spires are exceptionally weather hardy, as well as heat resistant.
Making it an excellent performer in the open flower field or the home garden.
And it has been bred to perform best in warmer conditions, so is a sound, reliable variety for Australian conditions.

Edible flowers

Snapdragon flowers are deliciously edible and make a sweet treat in salads, stir fries, fruit salads, drinks and as garnish.
So plant some in your veggie patch for both nibbling and cutting for vases.
Or just for letting the kids “snap” the Dragon’s jaws.
Kids adore plucking the flowers and working the dragon’s mouth.

Deer & rabbit resistant

Happily, Snapdragons are not high on the menu list for rabbits and deer, who usually pass them by for tastier fodder.

Gorgeous in a pot too

Plant Antirrhinum majus ‘Lucky Lips’ in Sun to Part Shade.
It also suits a wide range of soils, including sandy or clay, as long as the position is well drained.
And they are particularly lovely in a container or decorative pot because of their tall elegance, sparkling colour contrast, and exceptionally long blooming season.

Quick & easy to raise from seed & fast to bring to bloom

Antirrhinum majus is actually a short lived perennial and will go on blooming for several years if left in the garden over winter.
But because they are so quick and easy to raise from seed, and fast to bring to flower from seed, they are often grown as annual instead.
Personally I leave mine in the garden from year to year, and just trim them back to reshoot each spring.

90cm. High tapering spires x 20cm. Wide of neat, deep green foliage.
Though if well fed these dramatic spires can even reach 120cm. high.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow Antirrhinum majus ‘Lucky Lips’ at any time indoors in a punnet for an early start with flowers / Or scatter directly in garden in autumn, late winter and spring.

Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First sow the seeds on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then pat the surface lightly to ensure good contact of seeds to the mix, but do not cover.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath and allow the moisture to percolate to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place it in a warm, well lit position (not in direct sunlight).

Because temperatures of 15-25C are best for optimum and rapid germination.
You can also use a heat mat if you have one.
Though it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.

Then continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle.

Seeds germinate in approx. 10-15 days.

Once the first set of true leaves have developed – then prick out the seedlings into individual pots and grow on ready for planting out into the garden or field.

Seed Count: 200 seeds approx. per pack.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
