Gypsophila pacifica
PINK BABY’S BREATH

Gypsophila pacifica creates summer clouds of fine, misty pink star flowers; on wiry, breezy long stems.
So it is highly sought after by florists and loved by flower gardeners.

Misty clouds of fine pink flowers

This pink Baby’s Breath is not as commonly known as it’s white cousin.
Though it is even more adaptable and easy-going in it’s growing habits.

Excellent in garden & vase

So Gypsophila pacifica makes an excellent garden plant, as well as a commercial cut flower crop.
Looking wonderful planted amongst roses and perennials, where the Pink Baby’s Breath billows in between for a soft, cloudy, romantic effect.
With the blue-green waxy foliage also making lovely garden contrast.

Long blooming over summer

Pink Baby’s Breath also has a longer summer blooming period than it’s better known white cousin.

Easy garden grower

Gypsophila pacifica grows happily in the same conditions as roses.
So it loves the sun and is not a water-demanding plant.
This Pink Baby’s Breath is so fine and whispy in flower, that it does not interfere with the health and air flow around the roses.
It is a perfect companion flower in both garden and vase.

Tolerates a wide range of soils

Gypsophila pacifica is easily grown in a wide range of soil types, from sandy soil to heavier clay conditions.
It does not demand perfect drainage like ‘White Gyp’.
Though it is also an equally water-wise plant and can happily withstand periods of dry or heat once established.

Low maintenance & hardy

Pink Baby’s Breath is low maintenance and easy to grow.
It is frost hardy and soundly perennial, with good tolerance to dry periods once established.

Cut & come again

Cut clouds of flowers by shearing the stems back to ground level through summer.
And the more you cut the more your Pink Baby’s Breath will repeat with more flowers.

90cm. High with clouds of  misty pink stars x 60cm. Wide blue-green foliage clump.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Seeds of Gypsophila pacifica are best sown through winter and spring indoors / or sown in the open garden during spring

Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First sow Gypsophila pacifica seeds in a punnet on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then very lightly sprinkle the seeds with vermiculite or sieved seed raising mix, but do not bury.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface from below.

Then place in a warm, well lit place; and cover with a clear plastic lid to help maintain consistent moisture.

Temperatures of 18-22°C are best for optimum and rapid germination.

And keep moist at all times by misting from a spray water bottle, but do not saturate.

Seeds germinate in 5-10 days.

Gypsophila pacifica can also be sown directly into the garden during Sept-Oct-Nov when temperatures are suitable.

Seed Count: 300 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the seed count and give a generous serve).
