Primula beesiana is known as a Candelabra Primrose and is a spectacle in summer.
Especially when grouped in a flock.
Because it has tall, straight towers of bloom, stacked with round whorls of pretty Primrose like flowers, and rich, intense colours.

Flowers range in colour from deep pink to purple but each with a prominent yellow eye.

Great summer show

Primula beesiana makes a fantastic summer show, and performs well in all soils that remain moist.
But you definitely have to have a moist (and boggy is even better) spot to enjoy them at their best.

So beautiful Primula beesiana begins blooming in late spring and continues producing candelabras of bloom into the summer months.
And the flower towers sit atop a flat rosette of lance shaped leaves.

Perfect for dams banks & boggy spots

Primula beesiana is ideal for streamside and dam bank planting because it relishes wet conditions.
It is not fussy about being planted in either sun or shade, and will thrive and tower with bloom as long as it has that consistent moisture.
Full sun is acceptable in cooler districts, while part shade is preferred for hotter areas.

Low maintenance in the right spot

Primula beesiana is a low maintenance plant once established in a suitable spot.
So the only routine work is an annual trim and tidy to remove the spent flower stems.

It is an evergreen perennial.
60cm. High flower towers x 45cm. Wide flat rosette of evergreen foliage.

Primula beesiana is found in the wild among the meadows of Yunnan province in China.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow indoors in winter, spring or autumn / or scatter outdoors winter or spring.

INDOORS: Sow seeds in a punnet, on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press gently to the surface of the mix.
But do not cover because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the punnet by standing it on a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place sown, moist punnet in well-lit, cool position (not in any direct sunlight).

Temperatures of 10°C. to a maximum of 15°C. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.
And continue to keep consistently moist by misting from a spray water bottle as required.
Covering the punnet with a transparent lid, such as a plastic bag, is a great help in maintaining moisture.
Do not allow the compost to dry out.

Drying out, especially at the time of germination, can be fatal.
Temperatures exceeding 15-20°C will throw the seeds into natural dormancy.
And higher temperatures inhibit germination.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 21-30 days.
But patience – do not discard the punnet too quickly – as it is natural for Primula seeds to stagger their germination and continue to sprout after the first emerge.
