Scabiosa atropurpurea ‘Summer Fruits’
SUMMER FRUITS PINCUSHIONS

Pretty pincushion flowers in berry shades of strawberry, raspberry & blackberry make Scabiosa atropurpurea ‘Summer Fruits’ a juicy fruity colour treat for the summer garden.
Plus each of the myriad blooms is sweetly fragrant.

A swarm of berry delicious blooms

Each plant produces a swarm of large fully double flowers on long strong stems.
And once they start blooming in late spring, flowers are continually produced through summer and autumn.

Commercial quality cut flowers & fine garden display

Scabiosa atropurpurea ‘Summer Fruits’ produces commercial quality cut flowers, though I love it especially for it’s generous garden display.
The fine foliage, and long whispy flower stems are so easy to waft amongst other more solid plants.
To create such a mist of juicy colour in the garden.

Quick from seed & easy to grow

Scabiosa atropurpurea ‘Summer Fruits’ are a very hardy & easy to grow annual flowers in the garden.
And they are also quick and easy to start from seed.
But once you have them in the garden, then they should continue to self-sow each year as a “do-it-yourself” flower.
Should they scatter their children where you don’t want them, then the kids are easily transplanted or weeded out.

Plant in Full Sun to a little Part Shade.
‘Summer Fruits’ tolerate a wide range of soils, including clay.

Grows to a a fine, misty 90cm High x 30cm Wide of lacy foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow at any time of year in punnets indoors, or scatter in the garden in early spring.

Indoors for early plants: Sow in punnets on the surface of good quality seed raising mix. Then barely cover with 3mm of sieved mix / vermiculite / fine sandy grit.

Now thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by standing in a shallow water bath until the moisture has thoroughly percolated up from below to the surface of the mix.

Then place in a warm, well-lit position indoors (not in direct sunlight).

Temperatures 18-25C approx. are best for rapid and optimum germination.

Continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle.

Seedlings usually emerge in approx. 7-14 days.

SEED COUNT: 30 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
