Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Pink Splash’
PINK SPLASH CALLA LILIES

Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Pink Splash’ is newly bred and a refined addition to the popular Calla Lily family.

Palest blush pink furled around a shell pink throat

Calla Lily flowers emerge like elegantly unfurling umbrellas, and the blooms of ‘Pink Splash’ are particularly lovely in colour.
Large waxy flowers unfurl with softest pink shades blushing out from shell pink throats.

Superb florists flowers

Large and substantial flowers, long strong stems, and architectural foliage all make Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Pink Splash’ blooms a wow for florists.
And the creamy, gentle, shell pink shades are highly desired for bridal bouquets and arrangements.

Fragrant & luxuriously costly cut flowers

Blooms also have a gentle, sweet fragrance.
So each stem commands a high price in the flower market, and they are worth it for their long vase life.
Calla Lilies have one of the longest vase lives in the floristry trade.

Wonderful garden highlights or feature container plants

The strong architectural forms of both flowers and foliage make Calla Lilies very eye-catching plants for a prominent place in the garden, and well worth featuring in a pot.

Long blooming

Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Pink Splash’ blooms from mid-spring, in summer and autumn, depending on the climate. They begin flowering earlier in warmer and milder places.

Easily grown in a wide range of climates

Calla Lilies are easily grown and productive bloomers in a wide range of climates. if their simple needs are met.
They prefer Full Sun positions in cool areas; or Part Shade to Dappled Shade in temperate, sub-tropical and tropical areas. So the hotter the area – the more shade they enjoy.
Callas love plenty of compost and humus to make the soil retentive, and can even tolerate damp toes if necessary (though it is not essential).
They do certainly like consistent moisture.
Calla Lilies remain evergreen in temperate, sub-tropical and tropical areas; but will be winter dormant in cold and frosty areas.

Harvesting blooms for long vase life

Flower stems should not be cut, but instead twisted from the base. This prevents damage to the tuber and flower and gives an exceptionally long vase life.
Pick when the flowers have unfurled.

Rabbits & deer will not touch them

Calla Lilies have irritating sap that will burn the lips if munched. So rabbits and deer give them a wide berth.
Humans should wear gloves when harvesting in case your skin may be irritated by the sap.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow any time of year indoors in appropriate temperaturesĀ

Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Pink Splash’ are easy to grow from seed, and soon form a tuber.
So many commercial Calla Lily growers increase their selection by growing from seed.

Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First soak the seed in boiled water that has cooled to a temperature that is hot to your finger but not burning.
Soak for 24 hours in the cooling water.

Then sow the seed in a small pots on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
And only very lightly cover the seed with fine vermiculite.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now stand the sown punnet in a shallow water bath and allow the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.

Drain, then place the moist punnet in a warm, well-lit position position (but not in any direct sunlight).
And cover the punnet with a clear plastic lid or plastic bag to maintain consistent moisture.
It is important that the seeds do not ever dry out – they are moisture lovers.

Continue to keep the sown punnet consistently moist by misting from a spray water bottle.

Temperatures of 20-25Ā°C are best for rapid and optimum germination.
Because Calla seeds do like heat for sprouting.
So use a heat mat if you have one.

Seedlings usually begin to emerge in approx. 30 days, but do not discard any little pots, as it is usual for some seeds to come at various time spans.

Grow on in pots ready to plant out into the garden in spring after the frosts have finished.

Seed Count: 10 seeds per pack approx. (Seeds of this special plant are scarce)
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
