SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Seeds can be successfully sown at any time of year indoors, whenever suitable temperatures can be provided (18-25°C).
OR
You can simply scatter the seeds in the garden in autumn or spring.

Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First scatter the seeds on the surface of good quality seed raising mix and press gently.

But do not cover the seeds, because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place the sown, moist punnet in a warm, well lit place (not in any direct sunlight).

Temperatures of 18-25°C are best for rapid and optimum germination.

Continue to keep the punnet consistently moist by misting from a spray water bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear plastic lid or plastic bag will also help to retain moisture and prevent drying out.

Seedlings emerge in approximately 7-21 days.

Prick out into small pots as soon as the seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves.
And grow on until ready to plant in the garden.

Seed Count: Minimum 250 seeds per packet approximately.
(We always aim to exceed the seed count and give a generous serve).
