Antirrhinum majus ‘Opus Lavender’
ASH LAVENDER SNAPDRAGONS

Antirrhinum majus ‘Opus Lavender’ has an unusual ash-grey lavender colouring.

Unusual ash-grey lavender colour

This ash-grey lavender colouring is both unusual and very lovely.
And blends superbly with other colours in the garden or vase – with its soft, subtle shades.

Large florets packed with flowers

Antirrhinum majus ‘Opus Lavender’ also stands out because of the size and elegance of its long tapering spires of flowers.
With the flowers perfectly spaced along the stems.
And the large florets held on long, strong stems.

Outstanding garden display or commercial cut flower crop

All qualities that make it very attractive for both spectacular garden display or commercial floristry crops.
‘Opus Lavender’ is bred for both outdoor hardiness and health in a hot-house.

Long blooming over summer & suited to Australian gardens

It is also specially bred to perform well over summer, in longer day length and higher temperatures.
So it is a sound, reliable variety for Australian conditions.
Beginning to bloom in late spring, and continuing strongly over summer and into autumn.

Tall & elegant

‘Opus Lavender’ is tall, elegant and upright in bloom – making it spectacular in garden beds and pots, and perfect for bouquets and tall vases.

Edible flowers

Snapdragon flowers are deliciously edible and make a sweet treat in salads, stir fries, fruit salads, drinks and as garnish.
So plant some in your veggie patch for both nibbling and cutting for vases.
Or just for letting the kids “snap” the Dragon’s jaws.
Kids adore plucking the flowers and working the dragon’s mouth.

Deer & rabbit resistant

Happily, Snapdragons are not high on the menu list for rabbits and deer, who usually pass them by for tastier fodder.

Gorgeous in a pot too

Plant Antirrhinum majus ‘Opus Lavender’ in Sun to Part Shade.
It also suits a wide range of soils, including sandy or clay, as long as the position is well drained.
And they are particularly lovely in a container or decorative pot.

Quick & easy to raise from seed & fast to bring to bloom

Antirrhinum majus is actually a short lived perennial and will go on blooming for several years if left in the garden over winter.
But because they are so quick and easy to raise from seed, and fast to bring to flower from seed, they are often grown as annual instead.
Personally I leave mine in the garden from year to year, and just trim them back to reshoot each spring.

100cm. High sparkling tapering spires of unusual ash-grey lavender x 20cm. Wide of neat, deep green foliage.
Though if well fed these dramatic spires can even reach 120cm. high.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow Antirrhinum majus ‘Opus Lavender’ at any time indoors in a punnet for an early start with flowers. Whenever suitable temperatures are available (15-25°C).
OR
Scatter directly in garden in autumn, late winter and spring.

Sow indoors for quick & early plants: First sow the seeds on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then pat the surface lightly to ensure good contact of seeds to the mix, but do not cover.
Because these seeds need light to germinate.

Now thoroughly moisten the sown punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath and allowing the moisture to percolate to the surface of the mix from below.

Then place it in a warm, well lit position (not in any direct sunlight).

Because temperatures of 15-25°C are best for optimum and rapid germination.
You can also use a heat mat if you have one.
Though it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.

Then continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear plastic lid, or bag, will also help to maintain consistent moisture and prevent frying out.
Remove the cover as soon as seeds begin to sprout.

Seeds germinate in approx. 10-15 days.

Once the first set of true leaves have developed – then prick out the seedlings into individual pots and grow on ready for planting out into the garden or field.

Seed Count: 10 seeds approx. per pack.
(Seeds of this superior variety are scarce. But we always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
