GIANT WHITE BLEEDING HEART

$5.00 AUD

Availability: In stock

Lamprocapnos spectabilis ‘Alba’ (Syn. Dicentra spectabilis ‘Alba’)
GIANT WHITE BLEEDING HEART

Lamprocapnos spectabilis ‘Alba’ is a raving beauty.
With chains of snow white, heart shaped flowers – which dangle enticingly from stems arching above the foliage in spring.
So they look like long chains of lockets, or swags of pristine hearts when in flower.
And the foliage is also dainty and pretty in a ferny way.
These plants are all class.

Stems of Lamprocapnos spectabilis flowers also make superb and long lasting cut flowers in a vase.

Plant Giant Bleeding Hearts in a rich moisture retentive soil.
And they are not particularly fussy about soil type, acid or alkaline, as long as it has plenty of humus.
So they adore mulch and compost, and tolerate enriched clay as well as loam.
Plus they are very frost hardy.

Giant Bleeding Hearts love nestling under trees and shrubs in Dappled Light and Shade. Where the larger woodland companions shelter their long chains from winds and the late afternoon sun.

Long lived perennial clump.

40cm H x 40cm W approx.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: Warm – Cold – Cool

Indoors in punnets: Sow in punnets of good quality seed raising mix.
Then barely cover the seeds with fine vermiculite, as the seeds need light to germinate.

Now place the punnet in a bath of water, ensuring moisture throughout the mix, then drain.
And keep the moist punnet in a well lit position (not in direct sunlight) for 2 to 4 weeks.
Temperatures of 18 to 22°C are ideal.

Then cling-wrap the moist punnet and move to the fridge (not freezer) for 4 to 6 weeks.

Finally bring back into a cool position at 5 to 12°C  for seed germination.
Seeds will germinate at individual times, taking from 30 to 180 days.
But, the wait is really worth it for this beautiful plant.

SEED COUNT: 10 seeds per pack approx.
