Primula flaccida
SILVER DUST PRIMULA

Primula flaccida is delightful (do not let the odd botanical name fool you – there is nothing sloppy or slack about this little beauty)
Because it has densely clustered, pointed pyramid heads of lavender-blue.
With each flower pyramid sporting a jaunty silver cap and silver dusted petals.

Primula flaccida is also bewitchingly fragrant when it blooms in mid-spring-early summer.
And it is taller than most of the other enchanting silver dusted blue primulas. Standing up to 30 to 40 cm high on tippy toes when blooming.

So with these longer stems the Silver Dust Primula makes a stunning cut flower for vases.

Plant in Part Shade to Deep Shade. Deciduous shade is absolutely perfect.
Where the Silver Dust Primula is robustly frost hardy and able to withstand frosts down to -30C.

Make sure you prepare the garden spot well by digging in plenty of leaf mold, compost and old manure, so the soil is nicely retentive.
Because these little darlings enjoy heavier, retentive soil, and even damp or boggy spots.
So they are suitable for well maintained garden soil, pond sides and low damp spots, or where there is a automatic watering system to ensure regular moisture.
And mulch well for the summer.
But don’t let all this put you off. Primula flaccida is easy to grow, and will self-sow to make a charming colony, in the right spot.

Neat evergreen perennial clump, which is easy low maintenance.

40-50cm. High blue pyramids dusted silver x 25cm Wide neat, evergreen rosette of foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow indoors in winter, spring or autumn / or scatter outdoors winter or spring.

Indoors:
(Sowing Tip: Primula seeds are very fine and tiny. So pop a little fine sieved mix or sand into the bag containing the seed, shake around to collect the seed, and then sow the whole contents of the bag).Sow seeds in a punnet, on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press gently to the surface of the mix.
But do not cover because these seeds need light to germinate.

Place sown, moist punnet in well-lit, cool position (not in any direct sunlight).

Temperatures of 10°C. to a maximum of 15°C. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.
So continue to keep in a cool position.
Temperatures exceeding 15-20°C will throw the seeds into natural dormancy.

And continue to keep consistently moist by misting from a spray water bottle as required.
Covering the punnet with a transparent lid such as a plastic bag is a great help in maintaining moisture.

Seedlings emerge in approx. 21-30 days.
But patience – do not discard the punnet too quickly – as it is natural for seeds to stagger their germination and continue to sprout after the first emerge.

Seed Count: 10 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count and give a generous serve).
