SEED SOWING ADVICE: EASY
Sow in autumn, winter & spring in a punnet indoors.
OR
Sow seed directly in the garden in autumn so winter provides the period of chill.
Sow indoors for optimum germination & early, quick plants: First sow the seeds in a punnet on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then press the seeds gently onto the surface of the mix to ensure good contact.
But do not cover the seed, as light aids germination.
Now thoroughly moisten the punnet by standing it in a shallow water bath, and allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.
Then wrap the sown, moist punnet in cling wrap, and place in the fridge (not freezer) for 8-10 weeks.
This mimics the action of winter so that the seeds are stimulated to germinate when they come out to the warm.
After the period of chilling – bring out of the fridge, unwrap, soak again.
Then place the punnet in a warm, well-lit place (not in direct sunlight).
Temperatures of 15-24°C. are ideal for optimum germonation.
You can use a temperature controlled heat mat if you have one, to provide ideal conditions, but it is not essential.
Keep the punnet consistently moist by misting regularly from a spray water-bottle.
Covering the punnet with a clear plastic lid or bag can also help maintain necessary consistent moisture.
But do not exclude light, and remove the cover as soon as sprouts begin to emerge
Seedlings emerge in approx. 14-28 days.
Seed Count: 20 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
