Delphinium grandiflorum ‘Hunky Dory Sky Blue’
HUNKY DORY SKY BLUE DELPHINIUM

Showy sprays of butterfly winged, sky-blue flowers ensure Delphinium grandiflorum ‘Hunky Dory’ is a show stopper.

Butterfly wings of sky-blue

‘Hunky Dory’ catches all eyes with its glorious, soft sky-blue colour.
Plus each petal is marked with a rich blue dot, as if a drop of ink has soaked into every tip.

Covers itself with a cloud of sky blue – prolific blooms

Delphinium grandiflorum varieties create clouds of flowers, rather than making individual flower spires.
Instead they grow with much branching stems, making a complete cloud of flowers, with an upright and spreading habit – covered with flowers.

Compact plant but blooms it’s head off

And this dwarf growing Delphinium blooms its head off all through summer to autumn’s end, despite its compact size.

Perfect for front of bed, small gardens, pots & cut blooms

So it is perfect for a showy display in small gardens, pots, or for an abundant supply of cut flowers.
And it is gorgeous planted along the front edge of a bed, or under roses and taller flowers.

Newly bred for impressive flower power & extra long blooming

Delphinium grandiflorum ‘Hunky Dory’ is newly bred, and so admired for its impressive flower-power production over an even longer blooming period, compared to older grandiflorum varieties.
It starts earlier and goes on longer, with even more closely packed blooms.

Worthy of a prominent place for both flowers & foliage

Because of it’s dainty, lacy foliage; prolific continuously repeating blooms; and knock-out colour – it is worthy of any prominent place.
And that includes feature pots, as this dwarf Delphinium will take to pot life very happily.
It forms a neat clump of pretty, lacy foliage, attractive even before it starts to flower.

Wonderful sprays of sky blue for vases & florists – cut & come again

And because of their strongly branching habit and excellent flower production, Delphinium grandiflorum ‘Hunky Dory’ plants provide vases full of cut flowers for a very long period.

Easy to grow & low maintenance

Plant it in a Sunny spot to a little Part Shade.
‘Hunky Dory Sky Blue’ is a frost hardy treasure, easy to grow and low maintenance.

Very frost hardy

These little charmers are hardy in temperatures down to at least -25°C.

Not fussy about soil type or pH

Delphinium grandiflorum ‘Hunky Dory’ is not fussy about soil type or pH.
Though it will appreciate a dressing of lime in very acid soils.
And has good resistance to urban air-borne pollution.

Abuzz with bees & pollinators

Our little flying friends the pollinators, including native and honeybees, cannot resist this smorgasbord of both nectar and pollen. So these gorgeous little Delphiniums are very wildlife friendly.

But not friends to rabbits & deer

Rabbits and deer will not touch Delphiniums, as they know they are toxic if eaten.

Hardy perennial approx. 45cm. High in clouds of bloom x 30cm. Wide of dainty, lacy, much divided, deep green foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow Delphinium seeds in autumn, winter or spring.

Sow indoors for quick plants & early blooms: First place seeds between two sheets of wet paper towel / coffee filter paper, in a sealed plastic bag, and place in fridge for 36 hours.

Then remove, and sow the seeds in a punnet on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Now cover with 5mm of sieved mix or sandy grit.

And thoroughly moisten the whole punnet by standing in a shallow water bath, and allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.

Now place the moist, sown punnet in a warm, well-lit position (not in direct sunlight).

Because temperatures of 18-21°C approx. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.

And continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle as required.

Then most seedlings emerge in approx. 10-20 days.
But do not discard punnet as some seeds may come later – This is a natural process for this plant because it staggers the germination of seeds to give them a better chance of sprouting into favourable weather conditions.

Seed Count: 5 seeds per pack approx. (Seeds of this recently released, improved variety are still scarce).

Caution: All parts of Delphinium are toxic if eaten, including the seeds.
